NGX Loses ₦144.54 Billion As Nigerian Stock Market Extends Losses
Nigeria’s stock market shed ₦144.54 billion in value on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, as losses in major banking and insurance stocks weighed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), pushing market capitalisation down to ₦160.71 trillion.
The decline followed Monday’s closing value of ₦160.85 trillion, extending the market’s bearish run as the benchmark All-Share Index fell by 222.61 points, or 0.09 per cent, to close at 247,513.63 points. The index also reached its lowest level since October 7.
Despite the downturn, trading activity remained substantial, with investors exchanging 394.16 million shares in 38,660 deals during the session, according to figures reviewed by Brandspur Banking News Desk.
The session ended with 24 stocks recording gains, compared with 21 decliners, showing that losses in parts of the market did not prevent several equities from advancing.
E-Tranzact led the gainers, rising by 9.96 per cent to close at ₦14.35 per share. Coronation Insurance followed with a 7.83 per cent increase, ending the session at ₦2.48.

On the losing side, Legend Internet fell by 6.85 per cent to ₦3.40, while Omitech Ventures declined by 6.43 per cent.
Banking stocks also came under pressure. FBN Holdings dropped by 2.25 per cent, GTCO lost 1.77 per cent, while Zenith Bank declined by 0.78 per cent. The figures provided attributed the pressure on banking and insurance equities partly to pre-earnings sell-offs.
Access Holdings recorded the highest trading volume, with approximately 57 million shares changing hands, making it the most actively traded stock by volume during the session.
The latest decline leaves investors weighing losses in major equities against continued trading activity across the exchange. Although more stocks advanced than declined, the fall in the All-Share Index and overall market capitalisation reflected the influence of losses in heavily traded shares.
For investors, the coming sessions will provide further indications of whether the market can regain momentum or whether selling pressure will continue to weigh on equity valuations.
