Today’s Headlines:Court of Appeal Dismisse El-Rufai Bail Appeal;Wike Defend Tinubu Rainbow Coalition

The  Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna has dismissed the appeal filed by former Kaduna State  Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, challenging the decision of the Kaduna State High Court refusing his bail application.

 In its judgement delivered on Thursday, October 8, 2026, in Appeal No. CA/K/254C/2026, the appellate court affirmed that the trial court exercised its discretion judicially and judiciously, in refusing the former Governor’s bail application. 

The court held that El-Rufai’s appeal lacked merit, and found no miscarriage of justice in the trial Judge’s decision.

The appellate court also found deficiencies, in the affidavit the former Governor relied on to seek bail. It held that the lower court’s findings, provided no sufficient grounds for appellate interference.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended the emerging Rainbow Coalition mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, dismissing concerns that the initiative could undermine the All Progressives Congress (APC) or create divisions among its governors.

Wike, who spoke during a media parley in Abuja on Tuesday, said the coalition was designed to broaden support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election by bringing together APC members and supporters of the president from other political parties.

He maintained that the initiative was not intended to displace the ruling party or weaken its political structure, but to rally Nigerians across party affiliations behind the president’s re-election bid.

The minister, who coordinates the coalition’s activities in Rivers State and the FCT, argued that the president’s electoral fortunes should take precedence over partisan considerations, particularly in states where political interests and alliances differ.

Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to deepening diplomatic ties with Spain.

Ikpeazu spoke while representing Nigeria at Spain’s National Day celebration in Madrid on October 12, where he joined King Felipe VI, members of the Spanish Royal Family and other dignitaries for the occasion.

He said diplomatic relations involved mutual understanding and creating opportunities for the people of both countries.

“Diplomacy is not only about formal agreements; it is also about building relationships, deepening mutual understanding and creating opportunities for our people. Nigeria values its relationship with Spain and remains committed to strengthening the bonds between our two countries,” Ikpeazu said.

The Imole Campaign Council, the camp of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, has reacted to the inclusion of its principal in President Bola Tinubu’s campaign council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement by its Director-General, Olalere Oyewumi, on Tuesday, the camp pledged to deliver 1.5 million votes for Tinubu.

Oyewumi welcomed Adeleke’s inclusion in the revised All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council list.

Recall that Adeleke was named the Osun State Coordinator of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, PBAT, Presidential Campaign Council.
