South Africa’s Infinite Partners Raises $169.3 Million Fund To Back Mid-Market Businesses

South African private equity firm Infinite Partners has secured R2.8 billion ($169.3 million) for its second equity fund, surpassing its fundraising target as it prepares to invest in established businesses seeking to expand their operations and reach new markets.

The firm’s Core Equity Fund II attracted R300 million more than its initial target of R2.5 billion ($151.1 million), providing additional capital for investments in South Africa’s mid-market business sector.

The fundraising, according to Brandspur Banking News Desk, was supported entirely by South African institutional investors, including pension funds, insurers, asset managers and banks.

Infinite Partners intends to invest between R100 million ($6 million) and R500 million ($30.2 million) in individual businesses. The fund is designed for established companies that have moved beyond their early stages and are seeking capital to strengthen their operations or pursue further growth.

Technology-driven expansion is among the opportunities the firm intends to support. Businesses using technology to reach new customers, enter additional markets and increase their operational capacity fall within the fund’s investment focus.

The size of the planned investments suggests that Infinite Partners is targeting companies with existing operations and the potential to grow with additional financial backing, rather than concentrating on early-stage businesses.

For companies that secure funding, private equity investment can provide capital for expansion without relying solely on conventional borrowing. The terms and structure of any investment, however, will depend on individual agreements between the firm and the businesses involved.

The successful close of Core Equity Fund II gives Infinite Partners a larger pool of capital than originally planned to pursue its investment strategy. Its next task will be to identify suitable businesses and allocate the funds across opportunities that match its mid-market focus.
