Eagle-eyed fans have spotted the moment Sheridan Smith gave Nicole Scherzinger the side-eye while filming choir scenes for their new movie Girl Group.

The actress, 45, made the funny facial gesture as Nicole, 48, belted out a song that was being sung by the group.

A clip soon went viral on social media with the caption: ‘Nicole treats every single soundcheck like a sold-out Broadway show and Sheridan Smith’s reaction says it all.’

TikTok users commented: ‘Nicole is always doing too much.’

‘Nicole’s always trying to take the credit for a group effort’ and ‘loving the side-eye’.

Sheridan later poked fun at the hilarious moment as she recreated it while watching Nicole, who is currently on tour with the Pussycat Dolls, perform at a concert.

The caption, shared on the Girl Group Instagram, said: ‘Recreating the side eyeing from @sheridansmith since you guys all loved it,’ to which Sheridan commented: ‘I love her, it’s hard to side eye the queen! What a fun night!!!’

The film sees Rebel Wilson play a pop diva who has been booted out of her group’s reunion tour and will be sentenced to a community service order from the courts.

Spice Girls’ Melanie Chisholm appears alongside All Saints’ Shaznay Lewis and Pussycat Dolls’ Ashley Roberts and Sheridan.

Determined to still make it big in the industry, she returns to coach a group of misfit teenage girls for a life-changing audition with the hopes of getting signed by a top record label.

But not everything goes to plan. After pushing them too far, she is faced with the toxic issues plaguing the music industry and her own life.

Rebel has said it’s the ‘ultimate girl power movie’.

‘Ever since being a part of the Pitch Perfect franchise, I’ve always wanted to create something similar,’ she said.

‘Girl Group is just so fun and full of spirit that’s ready to have you singing and dancing out of the cinema.’

Rebel said she knew she had ‘something special’ when Anna Kendrick cried while watching the film.

The movie had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last month, with Rebel saying during a press conference that she screened it for her Pitch Perfect castmates – known as the Bellas in the film – to get their reaction.

She explained: ‘I had the Bellas – I love how it just seeps into our real lives – but the Bellas all came to a mini test [screening] that I put on in LA.

‘I really wanted their feedback because we worked together for seven years doing these movies. And even though we had the Pitch Perfect music team also on Girl Group, I really wanted their input, because one half of them are directors now as well, with Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow. They’re all crushing it.

‘And so, they know musicals, like me, inside and out, and because I had such a wealth of material, I just wanted their opinions and their input.’

When it came to their reactions, it was the finale that had the most impact on Anna.

Rebel continued: ‘Anna Kendrick, who’s probably the hardest one to crack, cried during the finale number Ride-or-Die, and I was like, ‘Yes!’

‘If I could get Anna Kendrick to cry, who has been in the musical theatre world since she was like that big, I knew I had something special.’

Girl Group does not yet have a theatrical or streaming release date.
