Suspended, not sacked — Kofi Adams says Ankrah still has his job as World Cup visa probe deepens

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has broken his silence.

He says National Sports Authority boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has NOT been sacked. He has only been asked to step aside.

The Minister made it clear that Ankrah is still the NSA Director-General, but on suspension.

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has clarified that National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has not been sacked but has been asked to step aside as investigations continue into alleged fraud involving World Cup visa arrangements.

“Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has not been sacked; he has been asked to step aside. There are layers of investigations,”

The Minister explained that the decision should not be seen as dismissal. There are several investigations going on to find the truth.

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah also spoke. He said people are spreading false news that he has been sacked.

Suspended NSA Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah says he has not been sacked, explaining that Sports Minister Kofi Adams told him he was suspended pending a CID investigation.

I spoke with the minister, Honourable Kofi Adams, and he explained the situation to me, with regards to an investigation.

He said he respects the decision and will allow investigations to go on.

This is about the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA.

Some people alleged that the NSA was collecting money from Ghanaians who want to travel to the World Cup to help them get visas.

The Minority in Parliament alleged that over $600,000 was collected and some people were charged $8,000. These claims have not been proven.

President John Mahama ordered Ankrah to step aside on October 1, 2026.

The directive issued on October 1, 2026, stated that the suspension would remain in place pending the completion of a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigation.

For now, Professor Emmanuel Osei Sarpong is acting as the NSA boss.

Kofi Adams says there are layers of investigations – CID is investigating, and the Presidency is also expected to probe. No one is guilty yet.
