SAD: Nakuru Doctor to Be Buried as Mother’s Body Remains in Mortuary 6 Years Later Over Family Issue

A late Nakuru doctor is set to be laid to rest while her mother’s body remains in a mortuary six years after her death.

Dr Gladys Nyanchama Oseko-Matoke, a medical doctor at Nakuru Referral Hospital and a master’s student at Moi University, died on September 23, 2026.

Her mother, Yuniah Bochaberi, died on September 2, 2020. However, her burial has been delayed by a longstanding family dispute that remains unresolved.

The prolonged standoff has sparked concern and anger among members of the wider Gusii community, with many questioning why the family has been unable to reach an agreement over Bochaberi’s burial.

Police officer and community member Sammy Ondimu has spoken out about the situation, urging relatives to consider the human cost of their continued disagreement.

Ondimu appealed to the family to set aside their differences and find a lasting solution, regardless of the grievances behind the dispute.

His message has taken on renewed significance following Gladys’ death.

Community members are now questioning how the family can proceed with burying a daughter while her mother’s remains continue to lie in a mortuary.

The situation has intensified calls for dialogue and reconciliation to prevent further suffering among relatives.

Despite the unresolved dispute, the family has decided to proceed with Gladys’ burial arrangements.

According to the funeral programme, daily meetings are being held at the family’s Baraka residence in Nakuru and at Nyambogas Farm in Nyamonaria as preparations continue.

Gladys is scheduled to be laid to rest on October 16, 2026, at Nyambogas Farm in South Mugirango Central, Kisii County.

As family and friends prepare to say goodbye to her, many people continue to hope that Bochaberi’s remains will finally receive a proper burial and that the family will choose peace over division.
