Israel Threatens Iran With ‘Heaviest Price’ Over Alleged Plot to Influence Upcoming Elections
According to a report by Al Jazeera on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has warned Iran and its regional allies against launching attacks aimed at influencing Israel’s elections, threatening severe retaliation against anyone who targets the country before or after the vote.
In a statement, Katz said Israeli authorities had detected what he described as attempts by Tehran and groups allied with it to organise terrorist attacks that could affect the election results.
“We are detecting attempts by our enemies, led by Iran and its proxies, to carry out terrorist attacks that would influence the outcome of the elections in Israel,” he said.
The Israeli defence minister issued a direct warning to those he accused of planning the operations, insisting that Israel would respond forcefully regardless of when an attack took place.
“Let our enemies know anyone who attacks us, before or after the elections, will have their hand cut off and will pay the heaviest price,” Katz declared.
The warning comes as Israel prepares for parliamentary elections scheduled for October 27, with security concerns and tensions involving Iran remaining prominent issues in the political debate. Israeli media have also reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Hamas could attempt attacks to influence the outcome of the vote.
Katz’s remarks reflect growing concerns within Israel over the possibility of attacks by Iran and armed groups allied with Tehran. However, the Israeli government has not publicly provided specific intelligence supporting the latest warning, and no evidence was included in the statement to substantiate the alleged election-related plot.
The defence minister’s comments indicate that Israel intends to respond harshly to any attack, regardless of whether it occurs before or after the parliamentary elections.
