Caught For Stealing Phone At Circle, But Instead Of Beating, They Made Him Dance

A young man’s day took a very different turn at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

According to reports circulating online, some phone dealers at Circle caught the young man over an alleged attempt to steal a phone.

Circle, especially Tip Toe Lane, is known for phone trading – and also for phone theft. Usually, when someone is caught, the story ends with slaps and beatings.

This time, the dealers did something different.

Instead of beating him, they reportedly took him downstairs and told him to dance.

Eyewitnesses say the young man was made to showcase his dancing skills before a crowd of onlookers and traders. People gathered, phones came out, and what started as a theft case turned into a free dance performance.

In videos making rounds on social media, the crowd can be heard laughing and cheering as the young man dances to save himself from a worse punishment.

Many people online are reacting with mixed feelings. Some say it was a creative and more humane way to handle the situation. Others say taking the law into your own hands is still wrong, whether you beat the person or make him dance.

As at now, there is no official police report on whether the phone was actually stolen or if the case was reported to the police. What we know is what bystanders saw: an alleged thief who was not beaten, but was made to dance.

At Circle, where phone dealers have dealt with thieves for years, this is a new kind of street justice – shame instead of blows, dance moves instead of bruises.

The lesson? If you go to Circle to steal a phone, you might end up trending – not in a police cell, but on the dance floor.
