Martha Karua Mourns Njenga Karume’s Son Henry, Reveals the Family’s Loss Beyond His Death

People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has paid tribute to Henry Waireri Karume, the son of the late politician and businessman Njenga Karume, following his death.

In a condolence message shared on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Karua expressed sympathy to the Karume family, describing Henry as more than a beloved son and brother. She highlighted his role in preserving the family’s shared legacy, making her tribute a reflection on both personal grief and family responsibility.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Karume family on the passing of Henry Waireri Karume, son of my friend, the late Njenga Karume,” Karua stated.

Her message also revealed the personal connection behind her condolences. Karua remembered Njenga Karume as a friend, extending her sympathy to a family linked to her through the late businessman and politician.

The most striking part of her tribute was her description of what Henry’s death meant to his relatives. Rather than focusing only on the loss of a family member, she pointed to the responsibility he carried in safeguarding their shared heritage.

“In Henry, the family has lost not only a beloved son and brother but also a trusted custodian of their shared legacy,” she said.

The statement placed emphasis on Henry’s position within the family and the significance of maintaining the legacy associated with the late Njenga Karume. However, Karua did not provide further details about Henry’s responsibilities or the circumstances surrounding his death in the condolence message.

Njenga Karume was a prominent Kenyan businessman and politician who served as a Member of Parliament for Kiambaa and later as Cabinet Minister for Defence. He died on February 24, 2012, aged 83, leaving behind a family associated with business and public life.

Henry’s death has also drawn attention to his connection to the family estate. A report published on October 12 said he had served as a trustee of the Njenga Karume family estate, a responsibility consistent with Karua’s description of him as a custodian of the family’s legacy.

Karua concluded her tribute by extending her thoughts and prayers to Henry’s relatives, friends and everyone who knew him.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family, his friends, and all who knew him,” she said.

She ended with a prayer for his eternal rest, offering comfort to those mourning his passing.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Karua added.

Her message offered a personal expression of sympathy while highlighting the loss of a family member who had been entrusted with preserving an important part of the Karume family’s shared heritage.
