WANTAM or TUTAM? TUTAM Crowd Floods Ruto’s Home Turf With Two- Finger Salute

President William Ruto’s visit to Kapyego in Elgeyo Marakwet County comes amid political debate over his 2027 re-election bid.

Ruto shared details of his engagement with residents on Facebook on Tuesday, October 13, as part of his North Rift tour.

The tour was scheduled to run from October 10 to 20, covering six counties ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Eldoret.

The itinerary included Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot and Baringo, with several infrastructure projects planned.

In Kapyego, the planned activities included commissioning the Kipkuldul-Kapyego-Kamalei road, launching a water project and laying the foundation stone for a market.

The programme also featured visits to other projects intended to improve infrastructure and public services in the region.

The visit comes as political exchanges over Ruto’s possible second term continue ahead of the August 2027 General Election.

WANTAM is used by those calling for Ruto to serve one term, while TUTAM represents support for him to serve two terms.

The slogans have featured in political discussions as supporters and critics express opposing views about the President’s future.

The two- finger salute has been associated with TUTAM supporters, although the gesture alone does not establish the political position of everyone making it.

Ruto’s regional programme is scheduled to end on October 20, when Eldoret will host the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kipchoge Keino Stadium.

The Kapyego visit places the President’s regional engagements in the spotlight as the country approaches another election season.

However, the size of the crowd and the meaning of the reported salute should be established from the original footage or reliable reporting before being presented as confirmed facts.
