We Know When We Igbo Had Leaders, The Likes of Zik, Ojukwu Not These Clowns Looking for Crumbs- Opara

According to a video posted on symfoni TV on Monday October 12, 2026, lawyer and House of Representatives candidate Maxwell Opara described some Igbo political leaders as clowns and a frustrated set of people.

Mr Opara spoke during an interview with Victor. He was asked whether Igbo leaders had made any move to negotiate with the president for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

He answered by asking who the Igbo leaders are and whether the Igbo have any leader at all. He said those who hold office through rigged elections cannot be called leaders.

He compared a leader to a father who provides for his family and takes responsibility.

He then said that no one who is called a leader today can win the post of provost in his own kindred meeting in a free and fair election.

In his words, Maxwell Opara said, “We know when we had leaders, when we had the likes of Zik, when we had the likes of Ojukwu. Not all these clowns, all these frustrated set of people who are looking for something that will drop from the table of the president, so that they will pick it and go to the social media and start talking nonsense,” he said.

Mr Opara also said that some of these leaders told people that Igbos are not qualified to be president. He listed the leaders from other regions who had held the presidency and vice presidency since 1999.

He argued that the Igbo have been left out. He said those who keep quiet about it cannot be called leaders. The interviewer suggested that he meant those who stand politically for the region.
