Pakistan demands action against TTP sanctuaries in Afghanistan, cites UN report

Pakistan has called on the Afghan Taliban regime to take verifiable action against terrorist sanctuaries and support networks operating from Afghan territory, rejecting attempts by its spokesperson to divert attention toward Pakistan’s internal affairs.

In a statement posted on X, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting accused the Afghan Taliban spokesperson of resorting to rhetoric rather than addressing the threat posed by terrorist groups operating from Afghanistan.

The ministry said attempts to shift attention toward Pakistan’s internal affairs could not conceal the Taliban regime’s failure to prevent terrorist groups from using Afghan territory to plan and launch attacks against Pakistan.

Citing the UN Security Council’s Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team’s 16th report (S/2025/796), the ministry said approximately 6,000 Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fighters were estimated to be present in Afghanistan.

It said the UN report also documented Taliban support for the TTP, adding that these findings could not be dismissed as Pakistani propaganda.

The ministry called on the Afghan Taliban regime to address the documented threat through concrete action rather than denial.

It also criticized the Taliban regime for commenting on governance and citizens’ rights in other countries while continuing restrictions on girls’ education and violating fundamental human rights in Afghanistan.

The statement said Pakistan remained committed to dialogue, but meaningful progress required the Afghan Taliban regime to honor its counterterrorism commitments and take verifiable action against terrorist sanctuaries and support networks.

Pakistan would take all necessary measures in accordance with international law to protect its citizens, defend its sovereignty and safeguard its territorial integrity, the ministry said.

It added that responsibility for preventing the use of Afghan territory to launch attacks against Pakistan rested with the Afghan Taliban regime.
