US immigration agents search Muslim Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home
US federal agents searched the home of Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar on Monday as part of an ongoing criminal investigation reportedly linked to immigration documents completed during her childhood, 24NewsHD TV reported.
According to US media reports, the immigration agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) carried out the search at Omar’s residence in the Washington, DC, area on Monday morning.
The investigation reportedly concerns alleged fraud involving immigration documents that Omar’s late father completed when she was a child.
However, the details of the allegations and the scope of the investigation have not been fully disclosed.
A US Justice Department spokesperson told Fox News that federal agents had executed a search warrant obtained through the department and approved by a court.
The spokesperson confirmed that the search was part of an ongoing investigation.
Omar, a Somali-born Muslim lawmaker representing Minnesota, was first elected to the US House of Representatives in 2018.
She was among the first two Muslim women elected to Congress in American history.
Known for wearing a hijab, Omar has frequently spoken out on human rights, racial discrimination, and Islamophobia.
She has also advocated for Palestinian rights amid the Gaza conflict and raised concerns about the rights of people in Indian-occupied Kashmir.
