On Arise TV This Morning, When Ojy Okpe Exposed Peter Obi’s Inconsistencies,Only Dr Abati Gave His Take— Bwala

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, has criticised some presenters of Arise Television’s The Morning Show over their handling of a discussion concerning Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

Bwala made the criticism in a post on X after the programme, praising co-host Ojy Okpe for raising issues he described as inconsistencies in Obi’s positions while accusing other presenters of remaining silent during the discussion.

He claimed that only veteran journalist Reuben Abati offered his opinion on the matter, alleging that the other presenters had contributed to discussions on subjects raised before and after the segment involving Obi but did not express their views on the former Anambra State governor.

“America wonder” This morning’s gossip session on Arise; when the stories trended in exposing @PeterObi’s inconsistencies and character deficiencies; guess what, only Dr Abati gave his take. The boy and the girl kept quiet, hypocrisy,” Bwala wrote.

The presidential aide further alleged that the presenters’ silence was motivated by their support for Obi, arguing that they were unwilling to criticise him despite what Bwala described as evidence of inconsistencies.

He also accused some people presenting themselves as journalists without formal training of contributing to hate speech, inflammatory rhetoric and the spread of fake news.

Bwala thanked Okpe for what he called an attempt to confront Obi with his inconsistencies, while predicting that the presenter could face backlash from her colleagues over the discussion. He concluded his post by declaring that “hypocrisy is real.”

The comments add to the political exchanges surrounding Obi, who is positioning himself for another presidential contest ahead of the 2027 general election.

Bwala has remained a vocal defender of the Tinubu administration and a frequent critic of opposition figures.

However, Bwala’s allegations about the presenters’ motives were not independently established in his post.

It was observed that during the programme, an old video of Peter Obi which is recently revisited online and going viral was played on air. Peter Obi in an interview with Dr. Reuben Abati was heard responding to questions that bothered on his possible defection from the All Progressive Grand Alliance, the platform through which he realised his governorship ambition for two terms in Anambra State.

He vowed to rather die than leaving the party for the ruling People’s Democratic Party at that time. He later joined the same party where he ran as a vice presidential candidate alongside Atiku Abubakar in 2019.
