Officers responded to the intersection after receiving a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a juvenile riding an electric motorcycle, commonly called an e-moto.
According to the Turlock Police Department, officers began CPR immediately after discovering that the 14-year-old was not breathing. They continued lifesaving efforts until fire personnel arrived.
Despite those efforts, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle stayed at the crash site and cooperated with police. The department’s preliminary assessment found no indication that drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision.
Police have not explained which direction either vehicle was traveling or what occurred immediately before the crash.
As the community learned of the teenager’s death, friends began visiting the area where the collision occurred to pay their respects.
Two teenage boys who stopped near the scene told a television news reporter that they had known Jameson for years.
They described him as someone who was always happy, always smiling, and well-liked by his classmates. Both were struggling to comprehend the sudden loss of their friend.
The family also shared a fundraising appeal following his death, describing the heartbreak of losing someone so young.
“At only 14, he had his entire life ahead of him,” the family’s message read in part, calling the loss incredibly difficult to comprehend.
The teenager was reportedly a freshman at Turlock High School. His friends’ visit to the intersection offered a glimpse of how deeply his death had affected those who knew him.
The Turlock Police Department used its public announcement to remind parents and guardians about the dangers associated with e-motos and similar high-powered electric vehicles.
Although these motorcycles are powered by electricity, they are not necessarily equivalent to conventional pedal-assisted electric bicycles.
Some e-motos operate more like off-road motorcycles and may fall under different California vehicle classifications depending on their specifications and how they are used.
Police have not identified the particular model Jameson was riding or determined whether the vehicle’s speed, design, or operation contributed to the collision.
The department has also not announced any citations or charges against the other driver.
The department activated its Major Accident Investigation Team to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The team is responsible for reconstructing serious crashes and examining evidence that may help establish the sequence of events.
No further details about the collision’s cause were available in the department’s October 11 announcement.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that could assist the investigation is encouraged to contact Officer Allison at 209-664-7398.
