‘I wanted to propose to Auntie Naa’ — Odiifour recounts first encounter

Speaking in an interview on The Delay Show, Odiifour shared details of the challenging period in his life after returning to Ghana from Libya. According to him, he was struggling financially and desperately searching for employment to support himself.

At the time, his circumstances had become so difficult that he was willing to take up almost any available job. He explained that he was prepared to work as a commercial vehicle driver or a trotro mate while looking for opportunities to improve his situation.

Odiifour disclosed that his fortunes began to change when he encountered renowned Ghanaian broadcaster Auntie Naa while she was on her way to work. He admitted that he was immediately attracted to her when they first met and even considered proposing to her despite their having no prior relationship.

However, his urgent need for employment eventually took priority over his personal feelings. He approached Auntie Naa and asked whether she could help him secure a job.

According to Odiifour, Auntie Naa explained that she was not an employer herself and was working under fellow broadcaster Mama Efe at the time. Realising that he was facing financial difficulties, he subsequently appealed to her for some money to help him get by.

In a gesture that would later prove significant in his life, Auntie Naa reportedly gave him some money and shared her contact details with him. Odiifour explained that he contacted Auntie Naa approximately two weeks after their initial meeting. During their conversation, he learnt that she was transitioning to Oyerepa FM.

Recognising an opportunity to help him, Auntie Naa invited him to join her at the radio station, opening the door to what would become his broadcasting career.

Although Odiifour was not initially a regular member of the station’s main broadcasting panel, circumstances soon presented him with an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities. When a scheduled panelist failed to show up for a programme, he stepped in to fill the vacancy.

His performance reportedly impressed the production team, with his analytical contributions and presentation style helping him make a strong impression. That unexpected opportunity marked a turning point in his professional journey.

Odiifour’s account highlights the challenges he faced before establishing himself in the media industry. From returning to Ghana without a stable source of income to securing an opportunity at a radio station, his journey illustrates how unexpected encounters can open new doors.

His experience also underscores the role Auntie Naa played in offering assistance and creating an opportunity for him to demonstrate his potential.
