Freddy Brazier claims his dad Jeff’s ex-wife Kate was ‘scared’ of him as he reveals the impact his mental health and addiction issues have had on his family

Freddy Brazier has claimed his father’s ex-wife Kate Dwyer was ‘scared’ of him as he revealed the toll his cannabis addiction and severe mental health struggles have had on his family.

The television personality, 22, – who is the son of late Big Brother star Jade Goody – has reflected on the impact of getting sectioned at 17, his stint in rehab and spending his 18th birthday in a psychiatric ward in a new interview.

Freddy – who was diagnosed with ADHD when he was ten and has bipolar disorder – admitted he is even scared of himself when he suffers from manic episodes.

Speaking on The Terry Stone Connection podcast, Freddy said he walked into St Thomas’ Hospital and screamed he needed help during one of his episodes.

He said: ‘I’ve been told by some people when in that state I just go glass-eyed. A friend said it is like you can see death behind me, behind the eyes. It is like someone’s almost taken over.

‘I don’t know myself when in that state, which is scary. I feel like when I’ve been in them states, I scare people closest to me.

‘I knew that my dad’s ex-partner was scared of me. She made it very clear. I didn’t beat myself up about it because part of me was scared of myself.

‘And I didn’t know how not to be scared of myself, because there was a point where these, these episodes were so regular.’

Freddy said he could understand why his father Jeff and the rest of the family have been so worried about him and fear he could end up in prison or die.

He added: ‘I don’t want to do that to my family, either of them things.

‘I don’t want to put them through that. And there’s been times where I’ve thought it myself know that I’m close to death, or I’m in an area that I shouldn’t be in.

‘I’ve been in some not great places, I must say. I’ve had a knife to my neck in an episode before, which was scary. And I don’t actually know how I got out of it.’

Freddy admitted he has to do ‘deep work on myself’ to deal with his trauma and is going to start therapy soon.

Freddy previously claimed his grandmother Jackiey Budden got him hooked on drugs aged just 12.

Jeff tried to use complex court paperwork to prevent the aspiring model from seeing Jackiey ‘to keep him safe’, after it emerged that Freddy and Jackiey would smoke cannabis together at her flat.

Freddy sided with his grandmother, and Jeff dropped the action.

He told fans last year he has been addicted to smoking from a young age and would be heading to rehab.

Kate and Jeff, meanwhile, announced in November last year they had split after seven years of marriage.

Elsewhere in the interview, Freddy admitted he raided the BBC show budget to buy drugs whilst filming Race Across The World back in 2024 with his dad.

During the show, contestants are given a small budget from the BBC to survive on while racing across the country.

However, Freddy has revealed he took money from his and Jeff’s budget to buy weed and smoked on the beach in Brazil after struggling to cope on Mother’s Day.

The Daily Mail has contacted Kate’s representative for comment.
