The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has announced the indefinite postponement of the state congress following internal crisis and disagreements over the party’s voters’ register among members.

The congress which was earlier scheduled to commence at 10am on Saturday, was delayed until about 2pm as party members failed to agree on the modalities for conducting the exercise with the crisis breaking the party into two factions.

According to reports, the dispute stemmed from disagreements over the mode of the congress with some members proposing a direct congress while others supported an indirect congress.

While announcing the indefinite postponement of the Congress, Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the congress, Yakubu Paul, said the decision was taken after consultations with the party’s National Secretariat which approved the decision.

“I have just spoken with the National Secretariat and received approval to postpone this congress to enable us to prepare for the reschedule.

“We were supposed to have held our ward and local government congresses, after which the chairmen and secretaries that emerged would serve as delegates to vote at the state congress, but this was not done,” Paul said.
