Jordan Henderson Reveals The One Chelsea Star ‘Not Too Happy’ With His Stunning Free-Kick
According to a report by Football London on October 11, 2026, Chelsea midfielder Jordan Henderson has revealed that Morgan Rogers was initially unhappy with his decision to take a free-kick during the Blues’ impressive 5-1 Premier League victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.
The 36-year-old delivered a remarkable performance at Stamford Bridge, scoring twice and providing an assist for Rogers as Chelsea continued their impressive start under manager Xabi Alonso. However, it was Henderson’s second goal, a stunning free-kick, that became one of the biggest talking points after the match.
Chelsea had already established a commanding advantage when the opportunity presented itself. Henderson stood over the ball alongside Cole Palmer, who was expected to take responsibility for the set-piece.
Palmer initially shaped as though he would strike the ball before stepping aside to allow Henderson to take over. The experienced midfielder subsequently curled a superb effort into the top corner, leaving the Bournemouth goalkeeper with little chance of making a save.
Speaking to Match of the Day after the match, Henderson explained that the free-kick had been practised during training sessions over the previous two weeks.
He revealed that the players had already discussed what they would do if they earned a free-kick in a promising position during a match.
“We have been working on it [the free-kick] in training for the past week or two. We said if we get it, that’s what we’re doing,” Henderson explained.
The Chelsea midfielder then disclosed that Rogers was initially not particularly pleased with the decision to allow him to take the set-piece.
“Morgs wasn’t too happy but when we got there. He said, ‘Go on then,'” Henderson added.
Henderson also revealed that Palmer played a part in the moment, asking where they would celebrate if the free-kick ended in a goal.
“Cole said to us, ‘Which corner are we celebrating in when you score?’ So I said, ‘The one to the right.’ I put it in thankfully. I’m thankful to Cole and Morgs to let us have it,” he said.
The former Liverpool captain joined Chelsea from Brentford on a free transfer during the summer, with the club expecting him to provide valuable experience and leadership to Alonso’s squad.
His performance against Bournemouth demonstrated that he could contribute more than just leadership, as he produced two excellent finishes and helped create another goal.
Chelsea made an immediate impact, with Henderson opening the scoring after just 65 seconds following a pass from Palmer. Shortly afterwards, he assisted Rogers, whose curling effort found the net after taking a deflection off Antonio Silva.
Joao Pedro also scored twice, while Evanilson found the net for Bournemouth before Chelsea extended their advantage.
Alonso praised Henderson’s overall contribution, insisting that the midfielder had delivered a complete performance beyond his two goals.
Chelsea will now hope Henderson can maintain his impressive form as they continue their Premier League campaign under their new manager.
