Insane mega-mansion complete with its own pub to be auctioned off with no reserve in hope of a quick sale

A widowed businesswoman is auctioning off her stunning six-bedroom mansion complete with its own pub in New Jersey.

The home, located at 82 Aunt Molly Road in Hopewell, was built by John and Christine Clifford in 1999, and it was the home where they raised their three children, Scott, Kerrie and Susanne.

After John’s death in 2018, Christine has been left to tend the couple’s three homes, including their six-bedroom, eight-full-bath mansion in Hopewell, near Philadelphia.

The widow originally listed the family home for $7.75 million, but on Tuesday, it will be auctioned off with no reserve.

This means the six-bedroom, eight-full-bath home could be swept up by a new homeowner for a low price. Although auctioneers estimate it will go for between $4million-$6.7million, Trayor Lesnock, of Platinum Luxury Auctions, told the Daily Mail.

The 15,000sq ft home sits on 26 acres of land that is surrounded by dense trees for the ultimate level of privacy.

However, a 102-acre parcel of land is also being auctioned off and may be sold separately, depending on bidders’ wishes, Lesnock said. The land parcel is approved to be divided into 11 lots, making it a gold mine for developers, or the ultimate security blanket for a reclusive new owner.

The brick-built home has a slate roof, copper gutters and a cobblestone front courtyard.

One of the most interesting features of the whole home is its own pub, complete with custom cherry wood and a stone-surrounded fireplace. It also has a 3,000-bottle wine cellar.

The property also features 12 masonry fireplaces, a wellness space, a mahogany library and a theater, the listing said. It also has an elevator.

Three of the home’s six bedrooms have balconies. All six have en suite bathrooms.

The grounds of the home are just as spectacular as the stone house, with heirloom trees, sculpted gardens and a large pond in the back.

It also has an infinity-edge pool, tennis and basketball courts, seven garages and a three-bedroom carriage house.

It is located in Hopewell Township, which has easy access to several metro areas, including New York City, which is a convenient 55 miles away. It is even closer to Philadelphia, with a train station 10 miles away.

The rural, countryside township is home to around 19,000 people and is known to be family-oriented, very quiet and conveniently located, Lesnock said.

The Clifford family lived in the home while running a successful paper company called Clifford Paper, which is now led by their son.

The family hosted an array of events at their homes, including family gatherings, weddings and business meetings, Lesnock said. It also served as a hub for their extended family during holidays.

John died in 2018, leaving Christine to manage the couple’s properties.

After failing to find much interest, Christine started talking with the auction house in December, but it wasn’t until the spring that she decided the home would be auctioned off.

‘She didn’t come to the decision quickly,’ Lesnock told the Daily Mail. But she ultimately decided ‘she wanted a rapid solution rather than continue to play that waiting game.’

To bid on the home, prospective buyers must be registered and put down a $100,000 refundable deposit. If they would also like to bid on the 102-acre parcel of land surrounding the property, it’s an additional $50,000, Lesnock said.

With the amount of wealth it takes to even bid, Lesnock said the home will likely go for somewhere near market value.

It is still being determined, in consultation with likely bidders, whether the home and all of its land will be sold together or separately.

So far, they’ve had 43 inquiries, but they only expect roughly five to seven people to actually bid on it.

Most of the inquiries are from people in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. However, they’ve had some interest from Europeans and Californians.

‘I would hazard a guess that a New Englander will probably buy this home,’ Lesnock said. ‘I think they’ll probably see the most value.’
