Sifuna Gets Rousing Welcome at Fred Machoka Grand Concert Days After Unveiling Major Political Move

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna received cheers from fans when he arrived at broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka’s anniversary concert at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.

The event, held on October 10, 2026, celebrated Machoka’s 50 years in broadcasting. Sifuna appeared cheerful as he greeted guests and took his seat near the front.

The senator later embraced Machoka, popularly known as Uncle Fred, prompting more applause from the crowd. Sifuna stood and waved to acknowledge the warm reception.

The concert brought together music lovers to celebrate Machoka’s contribution to Kenyan broadcasting and his role in promoting African rhumba music.

The advertised lineup included Congolese music stars Koffi Olomide and Mbilia Bel, alongside Sam Fan Thomas, Alicious Theluji and Les Wanyika. Kenyan group Them Mushrooms was also among the performers.

Machoka began his broadcasting career in the 1970s and became known for programmes that introduced audiences to African music and culture.

Sifuna’s appearance came days after he unveiled The Equitable Party as his political vehicle ahead of the 2027 General Election. He was presented as the party leader at an event on October 4 attended by allies associated with the Linda Mwananchi Movement.

The political move marked a new phase for Sifuna and his supporters as they prepared for the next election cycle. Plans were also reported to rebrand the party under the Linda Mwananchi Movement name.
