Sindh governor visits Heritage Conservation Projects being undertaken by PWCA
LAHORE – Sindh Governor Syed Nehal Hashmi Saturday visited various projects being undertaken under the Lahore Heritage and Urban Regeneration (LHAR) initiative. During the visit, he was accompanied by Rashid Nasrullah, Secretary to Mian Nawaz Sharif, prominent politician Mian Marghoob, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Tahir Farooq Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority (PWCA) Director General Najmus Saqib. The visit included Neela Gumbad Square, Delhi Gate Spice Market, Shahi Hammam, and Wazir Khan Chowk. During the visit, the governor received detailed briefings on the progress of ongoing conservation, rehabilitation, and urban improvement works aimed at restoring historic structures, revitalising public spaces, and improving the urban environment of Lahore’s historic core. Speaking on the occasion, (PWCA) DG Najmus Saqib stated that the LHAR initiative reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to preserving Lahore’s historic identity while promoting sustainable urban regeneration. He emphasised that the conservation of heritage sites, rehabilitation of traditional markets, and improvement of historic public spaces are essential for safeguarding the city’s cultural legacy and enhancing its appeal for residents and visitors alike. The visit underscored the importance of institutional collaboration in protecting Lahore’s architectural heritage and revitalising its historic urban landscape. Through the LHAR initiative, PWCA and relevant government departments were working towards ensuring that Lahore’s historic spaces remain vibrant, accessible, and preserved for future generations.

Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi called on Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan here on Saturday. The meeting focused on the country’s political situation, national affairs and continuity of the democratic system. The speaker emphasised that sustainable solutions to public problems were linked to an empowered parliament and strong democratic institutions. He said the effective role of parliamentary institutions in national affairs, the supremacy of the Constitution and parliamentary autonomy were essential for strengthening democracy. Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan said keeping the public informed about Assembly proceedings and the legislative process was among the Punjab Assembly’s priorities. He added that stronger coordination and the exchange of parliamentary experiences between provincial assemblies could further strengthen the democratic system. Governor Nehal Hashmi appreciated the Punjab Assembly’s legislative process and parliamentary procedures. He said interprovincial harmony and cooperation among democratic institutions were vital for political stability. He stressed that adherence to the Constitution and the law, alongwith prioritising public welfare, was essential for effective public representation. Special Assistant to the Punjab Chief Minister on Zakat and Ushr Rashid Nasrullah, MPA Rana Arshad and others were also present at the meeting.
