Kenyans React as Ruto’s Govt Is Hailed as the First Administration in Kenya’s History to Do This

A Kenyan named Josh has commended President William Ruto’s government for advancements in passport processing, the issuance of Certificates of Good Conduct, and various development initiatives in Nairobi.

He emphasized these services and projects as indicators of progress, especially for citizens needing official documents and traders seeking better conditions.

Josh’s comments come amid the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance public services and upgrade infrastructure in the capital.

In July 2026, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations revealed plans to shorten the processing time for Certificates of Good Conduct from 14 days to just one day, following an upgrade to its identification system. This change aims to eliminate application backlogs and expedite the service for Kenyans.

Passport services remain a significant concern for individuals traveling abroad for work, education, and other purposes. Streamlined processing can help applicants avoid delays, although actual wait times may vary based on application volume and verification needs.

Additionally, Josh praised the Nairobi River regeneration initiative, which seeks to combat pollution, enhance sanitation, and restore riverbank areas. This project includes developing sewer systems, managing waste, and rehabilitating riverbanks. Officials have stated that the initiative aims to improve the environment while providing opportunities for youth involved in restoration efforts.

Another notable project is the renovation of Gikomba Market, one of the busiest trade hubs in Nairobi, which has faced issues like fires, flooding, overcrowding, and insufficient space. On October 8, President Ruto announced that a modernized Gikomba Market would be unveiled in the coming weeks.

The first phase of the redevelopment is anticipated to benefit thousands of traders by offering upgraded facilities and a safer business environment.

However, the overall success of these initiatives will depend on their timely completion, accessibility, and the tangible benefits they provide to the intended communities.

Many Kenyans remain concerned about the sustainability of improvements in government services and whether the Nairobi projects will yield long-term solutions.
