Sifuna Hits the Dance Floor at Machoka’s 50-Year Celebration

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna showed off his dance moves on Saturday, October 10, 2026, as he joined fans and colleagues at veteran broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka’s 50-year media celebration at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.

The senator arrived to loud cheers from guests. Dressed in a white shirt, he was shown to a seat near the front, and he stood up to wave back at the crowd as the applause continued.

Later, as the music played, he was seen dancing happily alongside Machoka, with the moment quickly drawing attention online under the hashtag MachokaAt50.

His presence at the event had been a talking point days earlier. On Tuesday, October 6, Sifuna joked in the Senate that he might struggle to afford the Sh25,000 VVIP ticket, saying he would instead plead with Machoka to let him in as the senator of Nairobi.

He also hinted at government pressure on his sponsors, all in a light-hearted tone, while promising that senators would attend. He was welcoming Machoka, his wife Sophie and other veteran media personalities who had been invited to the Senate gallery.

The celebration, billed as the Machoka at 50 Grand Concert, was scheduled to run from noon to midnight. Congolese rhumba star Koffi Olomide headlined the show, with Mbilia Bel and Sam Fan Thomas among the other big names. Kenyan band Them Mushrooms also performed, with a tribute to Uncle Fred.

Machoka, who served as a General Service Unit officer before moving into broadcasting, was earlier honoured by the Media Council of Kenya on July 9. Senators also praised his career last week, recalling how his programmes entertained them as children.

Sifuna’s appearance comes days after he unveiled The Equitable Party as his chosen political vehicle ahead of the 2027 General Election.
