Prepare for Heavy Rains for the Next Three-Days if You Live in the Following Parts of the Country
The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has issued a weather warning over expected moderate to heavy rainfall in several parts of the country, urging residents to remain alert as changing weather conditions are forecast across multiple regions in the coming days.
The forecast covers the period from Saturday, October 10, to Tuesday, October 13, 2026, with rainfall expected across Central Kenya, Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, Northern Kenya, the Coast and the Lake Victoria Basin.
The forecast comes as the October to December Short Rains season continues, raising the prospect of wet conditions that could affect transport, farming and other daily activities.
Morning rains accompanied by afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.
The affected counties include Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Homa Bay, Kericho, Nandi, Bomet, Baringo, Nakuru, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia.
Residents in these areas should prepare for changing weather, particularly during periods when afternoon showers and thunderstorms develop.
Motorists are also advised to exercise caution on wet roads, while farmers should monitor local forecasts when planning outdoor activities.
Cold and cloudy conditions with morning rains giving rise to sunny intervals are expected over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County.
The affected areas include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi counties.
Along the Coast, rainfall is expected over Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Lamu counties, with Tana River also among the areas covered by the wider forecast.
Residents should remain alert to local weather changes, particularly when showers become persistent.
In Northern and Northeastern Kenya, the counties expected to experience rainfall include Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit and Garissa.
Conditions may vary significantly between locations, and not every part of each county is necessarily expected to receive the same amount of rain.
