Prominent UDA Leader Recalls How Ruto Chased Cherargei Out Of State House Meeting
Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Benard Kitur has recalled an alleged incident in which President William Ruto ordered Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei to be removed from a State House meeting.
Speaking during a public event, Kitur claimed that Ruto summoned National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and instructed him to ensure Cherargei left the meeting.
“President Ruto stood up wanting to speak, called Kimani Ichung’wah and told him Cherargei atolewe. Weren’t you removed from State House and chased away?” Kitur said, loosely translated from Kalenjin.
According to the legislator, Cherargei was allegedly removed because he was suspected of being a mole for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Kitur’s remarks came after Cherargei reportedly accused Nandi MPs of travelling to Nairobi only to eat mandazi, sparking anger among leaders from the region.
The MP defended his colleagues, saying they had supported one another politically and worked together to promote peaceful leadership in Nandi County.
He also questioned Cherargei’s alleged role during the Gen Z protests in 2024, claiming the senator had supported Gachagua at the time.
Additionally, Kitur accused Cherargei of repeatedly skipping meetings between President Ruto and Nandi MPs, raising further questions about the senator’s relationship with fellow leaders and the president.
The allegations could intensify political disagreements among leaders from Nandi County as they navigate their relationships with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
