“You haven’t given us Jobs but you are sacking us How Are We Supposed to Survive” – Trader Cries Out
According to a Post by KansemTvgh on Facebook Official account on Friday, October 9, 2026, a young Ghanaian trader has expressed his anger over the ongoing removal of traders from the Accra Mall area, popularly known as Villaggio, as part of a government decongestion exercise.
In a video shared by Adom TV on October 9, 2026, the visibly upset trader questioned the decision to drive sellers away from a location where he claimed they had worked for several years.
According to him, traders had operated in the area for a long time without facing a similar situation during the previous administration led by former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
“During Akufo-Addo’s time, nobody sacked us from here. We’ve been selling here for so many years,” he stated.
The young man wondered why the authorities were removing traders from their usual business locations when many young people were still struggling to find employment.
He argued that instead of taking away the little opportunities available to them, the government should focus on creating jobs that would enable young people to earn a decent living.
He further explained that roadside trading had become a means of survival for many people who lacked better employment opportunities.
The trader appealed to the authorities to consider the difficulties faced by those who depend on their daily sales to provide for themselves and their families.
His remarks come as officials continue efforts to clear unauthorised trading activities and other obstructions around the Accra Mall and Villaggio area.
The exercise has brought attention to the challenges of balancing urban order with the livelihoods of traders who depend on roadside businesses for their income.
