Baz Ashmawy reveals he and Tanja secretly wed months ago after decade-long engagement
Baz Ashmawy is officially a married man, it’s been a long time coming!
The 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy star met the love of his life, Tanja Evans, in 2006. He got down on bended knee nine years later in 2015.
In March, Baz, who turned 50 in 2025, teased that he and Tanja would tie the knot ‘soon’ because he’s in a ‘very happy place’, and it seems the couple did exactly that.
Speaking on the Late Late Show on Friday, Baz revealed he and Tanja ‘snuck off and got married in April’ after 20 years together.
He told host Patrick Kielty: ‘After whatever it was, 20-odd years, we just thought, you know, you want to be sure! You know yourself, your life is out there, and everything’s very public all the time.’
‘And for us, and for our family, we just wanted to do something very quiet and very private. And we just snuck under the radar and we just did it for the kids, really, you know?’
Baz and Tanja share two daughters, Hanna and Mahy, and the DIY SOS star is also stepfather to Tanja’s children, Charlotte, Harry, Jake, and Amelia, whom she had in a previous relationship.
Speaking previously to EVOKE, Baz laughed as he foundly recounted the tale of how they came to be together saying: ‘We always lie about this.
‘So I met her out one night with my friends on South William Street and she was really really rude to me.’
‘One of her friends had called me over and then Tanja was quite rude and I thought, “Oh screw you guys.” I remember thinking she’s really pretty but really arrogant or rude,’ Baz remembered.
‘Then a mate of mine had just broken up with his girlfriend on a Tuesday night and we were in Coppers. So I said “Right I’ll take you out to Coppers”. This was years ago and we always lie about this and I never say it to anyone but we met in Coppers.
‘I remember her saying, “Oh my God you come to Coppers on a Tuesday? What type of…” And I was like, “Hold on, you’re in Coppers on a Tuesday!” Then people were coming up to me saying, “Oh hey Baz,” and she was like, “Oh my God you’re a regular.”‘
‘I was like, “No, I’m on TV.” She didn’t know I was on TV or anything like that but I think that’s what I really liked,’ Baz continued.
And the rest, as they say, is history. Congratulations, Baz and Tanja, on getting hitched!
