California woman whose death at concert sparked outrage after band played on had just moved into new home after devastating wildfires

A California woman who had tragically died during a concert at Carson Jazz festival due to extreme heat had recently moved into a new home after initially losing it to the horrific wildfires that engulfed Los Angeles last year.

Shari Sanders collapsed in the VIP tent at Anderson Park during a sweltering heat wave on October 3.

An on-site doctor rushed to Sanders in a desperate bid to perform life-saving measures after she had collapsed.

Dr Dionne Leslie, who was aiding the concertgoer, said she was ‘just trying to breathe air into that woman and for her to look up in that moment.’

‘I just thought that she was going to make it,’ Leslie told KTLA.

Leslie performed CPR for approximately 20 minutes before paramedics arrived on the scene to help.

Bystanders claimed she initially wanted to save seats for her family at the concert, and she appeared to look lightheaded.

The blaze swept through Altadena and the Palisades in Los Angeles, which destroyed thousands of homes.

Sanders had barely settled back into her rebuilt residence when the second tragedy occurred.

According to a message on GoFundMe, set up by her heartbroken son, Henry Ephriam, Sanders’s ‘home of 35 years burned down in the Eaton Canyon fire in January 2025.’

‘Her house was only recently finished, and she did not get to enjoy it for a month,’ he wrote.

‘Our family is devastated by this loss and is still trying to process what has happened.’

Jazz musician Sheila E, who performed at the concert, took to Instagram to share the incident and offer her condolences to Sanders’s family.

She said concertgoers were left standing for hours waiting to be let inside the park.

‘We saw people running with emergency kits, going through the crowds like crazy,’ the singer wrote.

‘We never got our sound checks, so things were running late; production weren’t there, stuff was just happening.’

‘We were all heartbroken, because that never happened to have someone pass away before your performance,’ she added,

The jazz musician added that there was just one water station available at the venue.

‘Carson City, you need to do better,’ she concluded.
