Chelsea Are Considering a Move For Bayern Munich Superstar Ahead of January Transfer Window
Chelsea are reportedly exploring a potential move for Bayern Munich goalkeeper Leonard Prescott as the Premier League club continues its search for promising young players who could strengthen its squad in the years ahead.
According to Football London in a report published on Friday, October 9, 2026, Chelsea believe they could have an opportunity to sign the highly rated 17-year-old, whose long-term future at Bayern remains uncertain.
The Blues are preparing for their Premier League meeting with Bournemouth on Saturday, but their recruitment team is also assessing possible additions beyond the immediate demands of the current campaign. The club’s transfer planning continues amid changes to its ownership structure and the expected departure of sporting director Laurence Stewart.
According to Sky Deutschland, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is expected to make strengthening central midfield a priority during the January transfer window. Reinforcing the centre-back position could also feature in the club’s plans, although Chelsea remain interested in identifying young prospects who could eventually establish themselves in the first team.
Prescott has reportedly emerged as one such target. The Germany Under-17 international has developed within Bayern Munich’s youth system, making 16 appearances for the club’s Under-19 team and playing four times in the UEFA Youth League.
His performances at youth level have attracted attention, while uncertainty surrounding his contract has potentially opened the door for interested clubs. Reports indicate that his current agreement runs only until the end of the 2026-27 season, leaving Bayern with a decision to make over his future.
Chelsea and Juventus have reportedly been linked with the teenager, with both clubs potentially able to pursue a deal without paying a transfer fee if he becomes available at the end of his existing agreement. However, the situation remains unresolved, and it is unclear whether Bayern’s hierarchy will convince him to commit to a new long-term contract.
For Bayern, retaining a promising young goalkeeper would help protect the club’s investment in its academy system. For Chelsea, Prescott could represent a longer-term recruitment opportunity, although signing another goalkeeper would raise questions about how the club intends to manage its existing options.
Chelsea already have Emiliano Martinez, Mike Penders and Teddy Sharman-Lowe among their senior goalkeeping options. The club also has teenage prospect Freddy Bernal, who is considered to have significant potential.
Bernal, 17, has gained experience with Chelsea’s Under-21 side, making seven appearances, including one in the EFL Trophy. He has also featured seven times in the UEFA Youth League, giving him opportunities to develop through the club’s existing pathway.
Bringing Prescott into the system could increase competition between two young goalkeepers at a similar stage of their development. While competition can help players improve, Chelsea would need to consider how another addition would affect Bernal’s opportunities and the club’s broader plans for nurturing academy talent.
The potential transfer would therefore require more than simply identifying a talented goalkeeper. Chelsea would need to establish how Prescott fits into their long-term structure and whether the opportunity to secure him justifies expanding an already populated goalkeeping department.
For now, no agreement has been confirmed, and Prescott’s intentions remain unclear. Bayern’s efforts to secure his future, alongside interest from Chelsea and Juventus, are likely to shape the next stage of the situation as the teenager approaches a significant decision about his career.
