Teen killed in crash with log truck, Tennessee Highway Patrol confirms
LEXINGTON, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed a teen died Thursday afternoon in a crash.
The wreck was reported shortly after 3 p.m. on Highway 22A near Poorhouse Road. The identity of the teen has yet to be released. WSMV4 is working to confirm their age and gender.
THP confirmed the wreck was between a 2022 GMC Terrain and a commercial truck carrying logs.
A photo of the crash shared by local Katina Ann Mardis showed the log truck on its side. One of the axles was completely detached from the body of the truck, and logs could be seen tumbled off the bed onto the side of the road.
A preliminary crash report shows the teen was the only person in the SUV at the time of the crash. It also notes that it is unknown if they were wearing a seatbelt.
The truck driver, a 39-year-old Tennessee man, was injured in the crash, but further details on his status have not been released as of about 9 a.m. He was the only person in the truck.
THP has not released further information on the events leading up to the wreck.
“Please pray for our community,” Henderson County Mayor Robbie McCready wrote in a post Thursday evening on the county’s Facebook page.
