Fireworks In Senate As Sifuna Alleges Ruto’s Government Role In Oburu Oginga’s Death Allegations
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has raised concerns over the spread of false reports claiming that ODM leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga had died, urging authorities to take stronger action against misinformation.
Speaking in the Senate on Wednesday, October 7, Sifuna said alarming information about Oburuās alleged death had circulated online while the veteran politician was receiving medical care. He questioned why more action had not been taken to stop the spread of what he described as misinformation.
Sifuna also said Kenyans should continue praying for Oburuās recovery and return to his public duties. His remarks came as the ODM leader remained absent from the handover and dedication ceremony of the Raila Odinga Mausoleum at Kangāo Ka Jaramogi in Bondo.
Oburuās absence had attracted renewed public attention because of the false death reports that circulated the previous day. His secretariat subsequently dismissed the claims as fake news and said he was alive, safe and recovering. The office said doctors had instructed him to take forced rest and limit strenuous physical engagements.
Oburuās son, Jaoko, later delivered a message on his fatherās behalf during the Bondo ceremony, saying the ODM leader remained mentally and emotionally engaged despite following his doctorsā instructions to rest.
The situation received another update after Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi visited Oburu in hospital following the Bondo ceremony. Mudavadiās office said he found the ODM leader making good progress in his recovery and wished him a speedy and full recovery.
The latest developments therefore contradict the death claims circulating online, with Oburu remaining under medical care as he recuperates.
