Bad News for Ruto as Another Popular Mt Kenya Politician Dumps UDA Ahead of 2027

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has officially walked away from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), announcing a major political move as Kenya heads closer to the 2027 General Election.

Wamuchomba made the announcement on Thursday, October 8, during a press conference at Parliament Buildings. She said she would not seek re-election through the ruling party and would instead defend her Githunguri seat using another political outfit.

The outspoken lawmaker, however, did not reveal the name of the party she plans to join. She said she would first consult her voters and other people in her constituency before making her next political move public.

Wamuchomba said her decision followed consultations with her constituents, community leaders and the church. She also said she had taken time to reflect on her political position before deciding to leave UDA.

A major issue behind her decision is her criticism of what she described as selective justice within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The Githunguri MP specifically questioned why Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale had not faced action over remarks she said targeted the Kikuyu community, while Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia had been arrested over remarks that attracted legal attention.

Wamuchomba said she could not continue associating with a political arrangement where she felt some communities were not being respected.

She also accused the government of failing to listen to young people, even after the Gen Z demonstrations of 2024.

Her departure comes at a time when political parties are experiencing fresh realignments ahead of the 2027 elections. Several leaders have been reviewing their political alliances as they prepare for the next electoral contest.

For now, Wamuchomba’s next political home remains unknown. She has made it clear, however, that her bid for another term in Githunguri will not be under the UDA ticket.
