The Black Princesses head into their decisive FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa buoyed by the strong conviction of head coach Charles Sampson, who insists Ghana holds a competitive edge ahead of Sunday’s first leg in Accra.

Having relocated camp to the capital to fine-tune preparations, Sampson voiced confidence in his squad’s readiness, hinting that Ghana’s subtle strengths could prove decisive in tilting the contest in their favour.

“If I look at South Africa and look at us, they also have almost this type of mindset that we do. So, I see it being an open game, but I see us having an advantage over them in many other things that I won’t speak about. We’re looking forward to this game,” he said.

Ghana enters the tie targeting progression to the fourth and final qualifying round, which would move them closer to securing an eighth consecutive appearance at the global tournament scheduled for Poland.

The Princesses earned their place in the third round after a dominant 4-0 aggregate triumph over Tunisia last month, claiming identical 2-0 victories in both legs to underline their attacking quality and defensive organisation.

Attention now turns to the Accra Sports Stadium, where the first leg is scheduled for Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 15:30 GMT on Sunday.
