Florida 14-Year-Old Accused of Pulling Knife After Fight at High School

Image Credit: Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. A fight involving several students at a Florida high school escalated Monday morning when a 14-year-old allegedly pulled a knife and began following another student, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

The confrontation happened at Morgan High School shortly before 8 a.m. on Oct. 5.

A school resource deputy intervened before anyone was reported injured by the knife. The deputy arrested the student and confiscated the weapon.

HCSO publicly identified the student as 14-year-old Edrik Allen.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said the fight began at 7:57 a.m. and involved several students.

During the altercation, Allen allegedly hit another student. Deputies said he then took a knife from his pocket and began following one of the students who had been involved in the fight.

The school’s resource deputy stopped Allen, took him into custody and recovered the knife.

Allen was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon on school property and battery.

Sheriff Chad Chronister credited the school resource deputy with preventing the confrontation from potentially becoming more serious.

“This could have ended in serious injury, or worse, if not for our school resource deputy’s quick action,” Chronister said.

He added that weapons have no place on school campuses and said students who bring weapons onto campus or threaten others with them will be arrested.

HCSO said the case remains under investigation and that any additional information will be released through its Public Affairs Office.
