Today’s Headlines: We’ll Stand With You — Fubara; Adeboye Ordered Refund Of Illicit Donations — EFCC

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged the state’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, saying the people are ready to reciprocate the President’s support during their challenging moments.

Fubara said Rivers State had not forgotten Tinubu’s intervention and support during the political crisis that rocked the state, assuring him of their backing as he seeks a renewed mandate.

The governor disclosed this in a statement posted on his X platform on Saturday after welcoming Tinubu to Rivers State for the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South presidential campaign rally.

He expressed appreciation to the President for his intervention and commitment to restoring peace, stability and development in the state.

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has revealed how the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, ordered the refund of billions of naira in illicit donations.

Speaking at a public event on corruption and the church on Saturday, chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, said some rich men and politicians have been using the church to hide stolen money.

The EFCC boss disclosed that the commission traced some of the money to the RCCG, noting that the anti-graft agency wrote to Pastor Adeboye and told him what they found.

According to him, Pastor Adeboye did not argue or try to protect the donors, but called his people and gave them one order.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will meet next week to consider the implications of the Federal High Court judgment nullifying the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including the emergence of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s 2027 presidential candidate.

The commission said it would not take a position on the party’s leadership crisis until it obtained and examined the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment.

The Federal High Court in Abuja had, on Thursday, nullified the Mark-led caretaker committee and invalidated decisions taken under its leadership, including the party’s presidential primary that produced Atiku as its candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Nigeria’s Oluebube Umejiaku has emerged as the standout player of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after winning the tournament’s Golden Ball award.

The 16-year-old striker received the award on Saturday after helping the Flamingos win their first-ever title with a 2-1 victory over Japan in the final.

Umejiaku scored four goals during Nigeria’s campaign, including the decisive goal in the final, to finish ahead of Yu Jong-hyang of North Korea, who won the Silver Ball, and Japan’s Fuki Ito, who received the Bronze Ball.

FIFA, in a post on its website on Saturday, said the Nigerian forward was instrumental in her country’s historic triumph, describing her as an “electric forward” and the “star of the show” in the final.
