Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Candidate Tops New Poll as Nairobi Race Heats Up
Samwel Masaki, a candidate associated with the Linda Mwananchi Movement, has taken an early lead in the Embakasi South parliamentary race, according to a new opinion poll released on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
The survey by Politrack Africa places Masaki at 38.8 per cent, ahead of incumbent MP Julius Mawathe, who records 26.2 per cent.
ODM candidate Jared Okello comes third with 17.6 per cent, while independent aspirant Victor Ochieng Ongweno has attracted 12.3 per cent.
Other candidates collectively account for 1.8 per cent of the responses, while 3.7 per cent of those surveyed remain undecided.
The results put Masaki ahead of the incumbent as political competition builds towards the 2027 General Election.
Masaki previously served as Secretary General of the Jubilee Party Youth League between 2013 and 2019. He also contested the Embakasi South seat in the April 2019 by-election as an independent candidate, finishing third.
His latest polling performance marks a notable improvement compared with that earlier attempt.
Mawathe, an accountant by profession, first won the parliamentary seat in 2017 on a Wiper Democratic Movement ticket.
His election was later nullified following a petition filed by former MP Irshadali Sumra. However, Mawathe returned to Parliament after winning the April 2019 by-election.
During his time in Parliament, he has served in several committees, including the Public Accounts Committee and the Departmental Committee on Energy, Communications and Information.
The latest survey offers a snapshot of the contest in Embakasi South, where Masaki is seeking to unseat the incumbent.
However, the figures reflect the preferences of respondents at the time of the poll and do not guarantee the eventual election outcome. The published findings also do not establish whether Masaki has received formal endorsement from the Linda Mwananchi Movement.
