Ruto Unveils Ksh11.5 Billion Development Projects in Nyamira, Targets 180km of Roads and 6,840 Homes
President William Ruto has announced development projects worth Ksh11.5 billion in Nyamira County, promising major investments in road construction and electricity connectivity as he continues his engagement with residents of the Gusii region.
The projects, unveiled on Sunday, November 8, 2026, include the construction of 180 kilometres of roads and the connection of 6,840 households to electricity.
Speaking during his development tour of Nyamira, Ruto launched the construction of the Bondeni-Magombo Road in West Mugirango Constituency, describing it as an important infrastructure project expected to improve transportation and access to markets.
According to the President, the national government has allocated Ksh11 billion towards the construction of roads covering 180 kilometres across the county.
The road programme is expected to benefit farmers, traders and other residents who rely on transport networks to move agricultural produce and access essential services.
Ruto also announced a Ksh500 million electricity connectivity programme targeting 6,840 households across Nyamira.
West Mugirango Constituency will receive Ksh100 million under the initiative, with approximately 1,700 households expected to benefit from new electricity connections.
The President launched the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project at Makairo Market, saying the investment would expand access to electricity among households that are yet to be connected to the national grid.
He also presided over the launch of Magwagwa Stadium, although no financial allocation for the facility was provided in his announcement.
The latest commitments come amid questions about the implementation of earlier development pledges in the county. In August 2024, Ruto announced a Ksh650 million allocation intended to connect 10,000 Nyamira households to electricity.
It remains unclear how the latest target of 6,840 households relates to the earlier commitment and how many of the previously targeted homes have already been connected.
There were also differing figures regarding road investments, with Ruto citing Ksh11 billion for the 180-kilometre programme, while Citizen Digital reported a separate announcement indicating that more than Ksh15 billion had been set aside for road expansion.
The President’s visit included a church service at Nyamaiya Stadium before proceeding to project launches and other engagements across the county.
The announcements come as Ruto seeks to strengthen his political support in the Gusii region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
For residents, attention will now turn to the implementation of the promised projects, particularly the completion of roads and the actual number of households connected to electricity.
