Rift Valley UDA Politician Forced To Apologise In Public After Attacking Sifuna Over This

Kemeloi-Maraba Member of County Assembly (MCA) Turfosa Kuto has apologised following public outrage over remarks targeting supporters of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in Nandi County.

Kuto issued the apology on Saturday, November 7, after facing criticism from local leaders and being summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to explain her controversial statements.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) politician maintained that her remarks, made during a funeral in Nandi, had been misunderstood and were never intended to intimidate, threaten or discriminate against supporters of Sifuna.

She appealed to those who felt offended to forgive her, insisting that residents of Nandi and neighbouring Vihiga should continue living together peacefully despite their political differences.

“To those I have wronged, I urge you to forgive me. Let us continue living together as the people of Nandi and Vihiga as we have been living,” she said.

Kuto also distanced herself from any suggestion that she was promoting hatred, violence or divisions between communities, arguing that political disagreements should be handled through democratic and lawful processes.

Her apology came days after a video showing her addressing mourners at a funeral circulated widely on social media.

In the recording, the MCA appeared to warn Nandi residents against supporting Sifuna, who leads the Linda Mwananchi movement.

“Here in Nandi, there is no saying Sifuna. If you say Sifuna, we will take you back to Hamisi. Are we together?” she was heard telling mourners.

The remarks triggered condemnation from several local leaders, who accused her of making statements capable of creating divisions between communities.

Some MCAs demanded a public apology, warning that they would pursue legal action if she failed to address the matter.

The NCIC has also summoned Kuto to explain the remarks as the commission steps up scrutiny of political statements ahead of the August 2027 General Election.

Her apology now comes amid growing political activity surrounding Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement and its expanding influence beyond Nairobi.
