PHOTOS: Matiang’i & Gachagua Meet Kalonzo After Fiery Clash
Dr. Fred Matiang’i has posted photos of a meeting with Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka. He captioned them on Facebook with the words “Brothers will always put Kenya first.” The images show the three leaders walking and talking outdoors. They also shake hands and pose together for the camera.
The post comes only days after a sharp public exchange between Matiang’i and Gachagua. Last week Gachagua called Matiang’i “lazy” and said he was disconnected from grassroots realities. He also questioned the political weight of leaders who fall outside his proposed three-bloc plan. That plan covers Mount Kenya and Maasai land, Ukambani, and Western Kenya linked to Edwin Sifuna.
Matiang’i had earlier rejected Gachagua’s ethnic vote calculations. He described them as “majoritarian arrogance” that could split the opposition. He argued that competence and a good track record should matter more than community numbers. Justin Muturi also accused Gachagua of bullying and double-speak.
The meeting follows other recent engagements. Gachagua hosted Kalonzo at his Wamunyoro home in late October to discuss unity and a single 2027 presidential candidate. He has also met Sifuna and Linda Mwananchi figures. Matiang’i has meanwhile campaigned with Martha Karua and Ndindi Nyoro, including events in Limuru. A joint activity in the Nyeri area has also been reported.
No joint statement on outcomes or candidate selection has been made public. Still, the sight of the three men together suggests an attempt at reconciliation. It shows opposition leaders trying to present a united front against President William Ruto in 2027. It also shows how fragile that unity remains while they compete over leadership and strategy.
