Mudavadi to Uhuru: If You Love Sifuna, Why Give Jubilee to Matiang’i?
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has openly challenged former President Uhuru Kenyatta regarding his political alliance with Edwin Sifuna, the leader of the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM). Speaking to church leaders in Vihiga County, Mudavadi questioned the authenticity of Uhuru’s backing for the Nairobi Senator.
Mudavadi pointedly asked why Uhuru chose to hand over leadership of the Jubilee Party to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i instead of Sifuna. He argued that if the former Head of State truly cared about Sifuna’s political trajectory, Jubilee would have been his parting gift.
The Prime CS used the platform to urge the Luhya community and the broader Western Kenya region to reject Sifuna’s 2027 presidential ambitions. Instead, he pressed residents to remain firmly within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, asserting that President William Ruto offers the most realistic path to victory and development.
Further criticizing the Linda Mwananchi Movement, Mudavadi took issue with its leadership structure. He specifically targeted the appointment of former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza as the movement’s First Deputy Party Leader, pointing out her past impeachment by the Senate and the High Court’s subsequent validation of the decision.
Mudavadi reminded the clergy that individuals legally removed from office carry baggage that complicates their political eligibility. He urged the bishops to guide their congregations wisely, comparing uncalculated political movements to a dog chasing its own tail.
Turning to the logistics of the 2027 race, Mudavadi dismissed Sifuna’s chances based on numbers. He emphasized that even absolute support from Western Kenya’s five main counties would fall short of the constitutional thresholds required to clinch the presidency.
To win, a candidate must secure more than 50 percent of the total votes cast nationwide. Additionally, they must garner at least 25 percent of the votes in 24 of the 47 counties. Mudavadi concluded that without robust national party structures, Sifuna’s bid remains an unrealistic promise that distracts from regional development.
