From controversies surrounding prominent Nigerian pastors to political developments ahead of the 2027 general elections, several stories are making headlines. Churches have rejected claims that former President Olusegun Obasanjo allocated oil wells to their leaders, while the Independent National Electoral Commission says it will consider a court judgment affecting Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ticket.

Meanwhile, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has disclosed that Pastor Enoch Adeboye ordered the refund of billions of naira in suspicious donations. Also, Tony Elumelu’s daughter has graduated from Oxford, while fresh allegations have reopened a family dispute involving late comedian Gbenga Adeboye.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Living Faith Church Worldwide and Deeper Christian Life Ministry have dismissed claims that former President Olusegun Obasanjo allocated oil wells to their leaders during his administration.

The allegation was made by the founder of the Ministers’ Prayer Network, Rev. Mosy Madugba, who claimed that Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo and Pastor William Kumuyi benefited from the allocations.

However, Kumuyi’s media aide described the claim as “ridiculous”, while Living Faith’s Director of Media, Patrick Nkamiang, said, “Oil wells are not that cheap to give away, nor are they the personal property of the President that he can just give to anybody.” File: Pastor Enoch Adeboye

The Independent National Electoral Commission has said it will consider the Federal High Court judgment invalidating the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress before deciding its next course of action regarding the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, told Sunday PUNCH, “We can’t take a position until we see the judgement ourselves.”

He added that the commission would discuss the matter at its meeting next week, following the ruling which also nullified the party’s presidential primary that produced former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as its candidate.

Fresh disagreements have erupted between the family of late comedian and broadcaster Gbenga Adeboye and his widow, Omolara, 23 years after his death, following allegations made during a recent interview on the Kasnaty Show.

Omolara accused her late husband’s relatives of abandoning her and interfering with his property, saying, “When my husband died, I could not mourn him. I was depressed, I was sad.”

However, his sisters, Seun and Sayo, challenged her account, with Sayo alleging that their brother told the family that Igwe was his only biological son. “We need DNA tests; we need to know the real biological child,” she said. File: Gbenga Adeboye

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has disclosed that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, ordered the refund of billions of naira donated to a church project after the funds were traced to proceeds of crime.

Olukoyede said Adeboye directed the return of the money within 24 hours after the church was alerted to its source, commending him for “ordering the refund shortly after the church was alerted.”

He also urged religious leaders to investigate the sources of donations before accepting them and maintain transparent financial records. Official Portrait of the EFCC’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede
