Ledama Olekina Plans to Sell Nairobi House and Move to Narok, Reveals Reason Behind The Decision

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has said that if the late Raila Odinga were alive, he believes he would support President William Ruto for two terms, as he defended his record of development in Narok County.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Sunday Live, Olekina referred to Raila as Baba and said he thinks the former Prime Minister would be a two-term supporter. He did not give reasons for that view in the clip shared by Citizen TV Kenya.

The senator said he had stopped what he described as the politics of noise-making and moved to the politics of delivery. As an example, he said Narok Airport is now 90 percent complete.

According to him, the runway is almost done and the only thing they are waiting for is the terminal building to be completed.

Olekina also pointed to the Standard Gauge Railway, saying it passes right outside his house. He said he is about to sell his house in Nairobi and move to Narok because it will take only 30 to 40 minutes to get to the capital.

The remarks come as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has said it will support Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, while insisting on a 50-50 power-sharing arrangement with UDA.

The show’s on-screen caption, “We will negotiate for everything”, suggests Olekina also spoke about the terms of the cooperation between the two sides, although the clip does not show what he said on the matter.

His reference to Raila is likely to attract debate, since leaders on different sides have often claimed to know what the late ODM leader would have wanted.

Opposition leaders have said Nyanza and ODM supporters are not just chanting for one term, while ODM leaders have maintained that the party’s path was set by Raila’s cooperation with the government.

Olekina’s comments also show how ODM leaders are using infrastructure projects as part of their case for working with the government, arguing that cooperation has delivered tangible results in their regions.
