KRA Announces December Auction of Hundreds of Smartphones, Perfumes and Other Goods

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced plans to auction hundreds of smartphones, perfumes, construction materials, ethanol and other goods that have remained unclaimed at customs warehouses across the Rift Valley region.

In gazette notices published on Friday, November 6, 2026, the tax authority listed dozens of consignments held at customs facilities in Eldoret, Naivasha, Lodwar and Nakuru. The goods will be sold through a public auction scheduled for December 28 to 31, 2026, unless their owners claim them within the stipulated period.

The notices were issued under Section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004, which allows customs authorities to dispose of goods that have overstayed in warehouses and are considered abandoned.

Eldoret Customs Warehouse has the largest collection of goods listed for auction. These include 430 assorted used smartphones packed in 10 consignments, another 40 smartphones in one package, five laptops, a piano, 49 Plantronics Blackwire earphones and 320 assorted perfumes.

Some of the electronic shipments were consigned through Sahan Cargo and Clearing Ltd and Sharif Cargo. According to the notices, the consignments arrived at Eldoret International Airport through Astral Aviation between June 2023 and September 2025.

The warehouse is also holding several consignments of ethanol belonging to different individuals. The listed quantities include 54 drums linked to Omuga Nyamol, 125 drums associated with Hamza Salaon, 32 drums each belonging to Michael Mwangi and John Wandaka Waweru, and 10 drums listed under James Njoroge. Each drum contains 250 litres of ethanol.

At Naivasha Inland Container Depot, KRA has listed 1,472 packages of mineral fibre ceiling boards and ceiling grids consigned to Vibrant Construction Co. Ltd. The shipment arrived aboard the vessel Kota Sejarah on December 26, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Lodwar Customs Station Warehouse has 665 empty beer crates spread across four consignments. Some of the crates have remained in storage since April 2022, with Noel Kajaira, Mugisha Sadik and Gidiel Mwiti among the listed consignees.

In Nakuru, the authority has listed 927 cartons of ceramic tiles measuring 400mm by 400mm and 125 bags of sugar, each weighing 50 kilogrammes. Both consignments have unknown owners.

KRA stated that prospective buyers will participate through its online bidding platform, ibid.kra.go.ke. Interested bidders will be allowed to inspect the goods physically at their respective storage locations on December 23 and 24 during official working hours.

Owners of the listed consignments have 30 days from the publication of the gazette notice to clear and remove their goods from customs custody before the auction proceeds.

The four notices were signed by Abdi Malik, the Chief Manager for the Rift Valley Region.

The announcement comes as KRA continues to remind businesses and individuals to comply with customs requirements and other tax obligations. The authority recently issued a nine-point checklist guiding employers on filing and paying their October 2026 Pay As You Earn obligations before the November 9 deadline.
