Kenya’s public debt reached 69.9 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by the end of June 2026, with the World Bank warning that increasing reliance on domestic borrowing is exposing the country to growing fiscal and financial sector risks.“Gross public debt stood at 69.9 per cent of GDP, with domestic debt reaching 56.2 per cent of total debt, as net domestic borrowing financed most of the deficit,” the World Bank report stated.
