I Did Not Truly Understand Peter Obi Until Now, We Would Have Collaborated And Ousted APC- Kwankwaso

According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday, November 8, 2026, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has expressed regret over his inability to reach an agreement with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to form a joint ticket ahead of the 2023 general election.

Kwankwaso suggested that an alliance between him and the former Anambra State governor could have changed the outcome of the election and prevented the All Progressives Congress (APC) from retaining power.

He made the disclosure on Saturday while speaking to supporters of the NDC at the 360 Event Centre in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.

The former Kano State governor admitted that he did not fully appreciate Obi’s political qualities and potential before the 2023 elections, noting that a better understanding of the Labour Party’s former presidential candidate could have encouraged them to work together.

According to Kwankwaso, their failure to establish a political partnership was a missed opportunity that might have given the opposition a stronger chance of defeating the ruling party.

He maintained that a joint presidential ticket between both politicians could have posed a serious challenge to the APC and possibly secured victory for the opposition.

Reflecting on the political developments surrounding the 2023 general election, Kwankwaso said he now had a better understanding of Obi and regretted that they did not collaborate at the time.

“I did not truly understand Peter Obi until now. Had I understood him better in 2023, we would have collaborated and ousted the All Progressives Congress from the presidency,” he said, drawing cheers from the audience.
