Grade 9 Learner Went Missing After Lying to Her Parents She Was Leaving For School But Never Arrived

Concern is growing in the Ndwedwe community of KwaZulu-Natal following the mysterious disappearance of a 15-year-old schoolgirl who reportedly left home for school but never arrived at her intended destination.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) has issued an urgent appeal for public assistance in tracing Sisanda Nsibande, a Grade 9 learner at Nombika Secondary School, whose whereabouts remain unknown according to the missing-person report.

The teenager was last seen leaving her family home in Emona, Ndwedwe, on Friday, 6 November 2026, at approximately 6:45 a.m. She reportedly informed members of her household that she was heading to school, as she would normally do on a regular school day.

However, concerns emerged when her uncle subsequently discovered that Sisanda had not attended classes that day. Further inquiries reportedly revealed that she was not scheduled to sit for any examinations, raising additional questions about her intended destination.

Family members immediately began making inquiries in an effort to establish where the teenager might have gone. They reportedly contacted some of her friends, hoping that someone could provide information about her movements or possible location.

Unfortunately, those efforts did not produce any useful leads, leaving her relatives increasingly worried about her safety.

According to the information provided by RUSA, Sisanda was last seen wearing a grey shirt, a white golf shirt displaying her school’s branding, and black school shoes.

She is described as a tall teenager with a healthy physique and short black hair. These identifying details have been shared to help members of the public recognise her should they encounter someone matching her description.

Her family explained that Sisanda had no known history of leaving home without informing relatives of her plans. They indicated that she would ordinarily leave the household to attend school and was not accustomed to disappearing without explanation.

However, relatives reportedly noticed changes in her behaviour in the period preceding her disappearance.

According to the family’s account, Sisanda’s mother visited her during the previous week and allegedly discovered that the teenager had been involved in a relationship that had not been disclosed to her family.

Concerns were also raised about a reported decline in her academic performance. The discovery reportedly resulted in a disagreement between Sisanda and her mother.

Following that incident, her mother reportedly maintained daily telephone contact with the household to monitor her daughter’s behaviour, educational progress, and general well-being.

Although these circumstances form part of the information shared by the family, the reason for Sisanda’s disappearance has not been established, and it remains unclear whether the earlier disagreement is connected to her absence.

The family is now appealing to residents of Ndwedwe, surrounding communities, and the wider public to assist in locating the missing teenager.

Anyone who may have seen Sisanda or possesses credible information about her whereabouts is encouraged to contact her mother, Sithembale Nsibande, on 081 359 9089, or her uncle, Amazo Nsibande, on 071 113 6284.

Members of the public are urged to share verified information responsibly and support efforts to ensure Sisanda is located safely and reunited with her family.

The appeal remains focused on establishing her whereabouts and ensuring her safety.
