“Gachagua Should Understand This Clearly” Miguna Miguna Tells Gachagua What He Needs to Know

Lawyer Miguna Miguna has criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of promoting ethnic politics at the expense of national unity.

Miguna argued that political leaders should represent all Kenyans, regardless of their ethnic backgrounds, instead of focusing on the interests of one community.

In a strongly worded statement, Miguna claimed that whenever Gachagua uses phrases such as “we” or “our people”, he is referring specifically to the Kikuyu community.

He accused the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader of prioritising the interests of his community over those of the wider Kenyan population.

Miguna maintained that Kenya belongs equally to all its citizens.

The lawyer also urged Kenyans to reject leaders who, in his view, use ethnic identity to advance their political ambitions.

He insisted that no single community should be made to feel more entitled to the country than others, arguing that every ethnic group has an equal stake in Kenya’s future.

Miguna’s remarks came shortly after Gachagua defended cultural gatherings organised by the Mount Kenya community, dismissing accusations of tribalism.

Speaking at the Ngemi Cia Watho event in Thika on November 7, Gachagua argued that every community has the right to celebrate its identity and discuss issues affecting its members.

He also questioned why Mount Kenya gatherings should attract criticism when other communities hold similar events.

The exchange has renewed debate about ethnic politics and national unity as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Article 10 of the Kenyan Constitution recognises national unity, inclusiveness, equality and non-discrimination as important national values.

Miguna’s message was that every Kenyan community deserves equal recognition, opportunities and a sense of belonging, regardless of its size or political influence.
