Kaizer Chiefs Transfer Bombshell: Fernando Da Cruz Reveals What Amakhosi Want Before January Window

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has outlined the club’s transfer strategy ahead of the January transfer window, making it clear that Amakhosi will prioritise quality, experience and meaningful squad improvement rather than simply increasing their numbers.

The French tactician believes that any new arrivals must bring something valuable to the team, particularly in areas where the Soweto giants lack the experience needed to compete consistently at the highest level.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final against Siwelele FC, Da Cruz stressed that the club would approach its January recruitment business with patience and careful consideration.

“We don’t just want to recruit players. We want to add value to the squad, so it is very important to do it right,” Da Cruz explained.

The Chiefs coach also acknowledged that his squad requires additional experience in certain positions, particularly to support the development of the club’s younger players.

“We know that we have a lack of experience in certain positions to help and support our young, talented players every day in training to develop and mature,” he added.

His comments suggest that Amakhosi could prioritise established professionals capable of providing leadership, consistency and guidance within the dressing room.

The club’s recruitment strategy will undoubtedly attract attention following an inconsistent start to the 2026/27 campaign.

Despite making several additions during the previous transfer period, including Thabo Moloisane, Langelihle Phili, Adolf Mtasingwa, Faiz Abrahams and goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, Chiefs have struggled to maintain the momentum they showed earlier in the season.

The permanent acquisition of striker Khanyisa Mayo and the recent arrival of Bafana Bafana international Elias Mokwana have further strengthened their options.

However, their disappointing exits from the MTN8 and CAF Confederation Cup have increased expectations for improvements when the January window opens.

Amakhosi currently have an opportunity to reassess their squad requirements before making further commitments in the transfer market.

Da Cruz’s remarks indicate that Chiefs are determined to avoid unnecessary recruitment and instead identify players who can immediately contribute to the team’s ambitions.

With competitive football continuing before January, the coaching staff have time to evaluate performances, identify weaknesses and determine where reinforcements are most urgently required.

For the Amakhosi faithful, the message is clear: January recruitment must deliver genuine improvement, not simply more names on the team sheet.
