Angella Okutoyi makes history with Maiden WTA tittle in Angola
Kenya’s tennis sensation Angella Okutoyi has written another important chapter in her sporting career after winning her maiden Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) professional title at the 2026 Angola Ladies Open.
Okutoyi teamed up with Burundian tennis star Sada Nahimana to claim the W125 Angola Ladies Open doubles championship on Saturday, November 7, 2026, following an impressive straight-sets victory in the final at Lwena Court in Angola.
The East African duo defeated the second-seeded Polish pair of Martyna Kubka and Justina Mikulskye 6-4, 6-4 to lift the prestigious doubles trophy, marking a significant milestone in Okutoyi’s transition into professional WTA competition.
The victory was particularly special for the Kenyan, who secured her first WTA title after an impressive week of performances alongside Nahimana. Their understanding on court proved crucial as they overcame their opponents in two competitive sets without requiring a deciding third set.
Speaking after the final, the 22-year-old Okutoyi expressed her excitement and appreciation for her partner, while also congratulating their opponents for putting up a good fight.
“I want to thank Sada for playing with me. It was very nice, and this was the third time we have played together and won,” Okutoyi said.
She further explained the personal significance of the achievement, noting that winning her first WTA title alongside Nahimana made the occasion even more memorable.
“Especially, this being my first WTA title and winning it with you means a lot,” she added.
On her part, Nahimana, 25, praised Okutoyi for her contribution throughout the tournament, describing her as an amazing player.Nahimana also congratulated their opponents, Kubka and Mikulskye, before expressing gratitude to the Kenyan for agreeing to partner with her during the competition.
The Burundian has also established herself on the international tennis circuit, having achieved career-high rankings of world number 218 in singles and number 199 in doubles.
For Kenya, Okutoyi’s achievement represents an encouraging moment for the country’s tennis ambitions, demonstrating the potential of Kenyan athletes to compete and succeed on the international stage.
Her latest success is also a significant boost to her professional journey as she continues to build her reputation beyond the junior tennis circuit.
The Angola triumph gives Okutoyi another reason to believe in her abilities as she targets more international success and higher achievements in professional tennis.
